“There’s no commission as there’s no doctor and we don’t know when there will be any”; persons with disabilities from Vanadzor have not got their benefits for already 2 months
Today, on March 23, 2017, A. Gh. from Vanadzor consulted HCA Vanadzor and said that as a result of medical and social expert examination, the previous year he was declared a person with disabilities for 1 year and consequently, disability benefit was awarded. February 26, 2017 was assigned as the date for the next-in-turn medical and social expert examination.
The human rights protection in closed and semi-closed institutions (narcological facilities, mental health clinics, penitentiaries, etc) counts among the strategic objectives of the Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Vanadzor.
In 2014, Hovhannes Katrjyan applied to HCA Vanadzor office with a request to protect his rights. For the recent few years, the latter has been fighting for the restoration of his rights and reimbursement for the losses he has suffered. H. Katrjyan has serious health problems, since 1985 he has been living with the help of a heart stimulating device.
Former serviceman Edvard Hakhverdyan had applied to Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly for the protection of his rights. With acute myocardial infarction diagnosis Edvard Hakhverdyan was taken to Yerevan State Medical University after “Mkhitar Heratsi” SNCO in October, 2011, where he underwent a cardiac surgery, coronary stent placement was administered. The surgery cost 1.860.000 AMD.
Berlin, 12 December 2013: European Platform for Democratic Elections (EPDE) has to state with concern that a number of states that are home to EPDE member organizations are not only marked by a regression in the field of free and democratic elections, but also grossly violate human rights, with ongoing harassment of civil society activists for their civic and human rights activities.
Chairman of the Helsinki Citizens Assembly Vanadzor, human rights activist Artur Sakunts addressed a letter to all the 131 MPs, inquiring about their being proponents or opponents of Armenia’s accession to the Customs Union.
Starting from July, 2013 various actions of protest undertaken by civil initiatives and civil activists against the illegal decisions reached by different authorities were accompanied by acts of violence, beatings, illegal apprehensions, criminal prosecutions exerted by law-enforcers against citizens.
On August 27, 2013, at 1:00 p.m., a march and assembly were launched against the mass repressions by the police in front of the RA Police Office. Despite the prior notice on holding the assembly directly in front of the Police Office, the Deputy Chief of the RA Police Valeri Osipyan argued that the assembly participants closed the entrance to the Police Office, and he was unable to ensure their security there.
Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly-Vanadzor, being a human rights organization, is vigorously enrolled in activities in the field of human rights protection.
The logical continuation of human rights defense is advocacy. Because HCA Vanadzor has adopted the issue of human rights defense, it considers advocacy as an inseparable part of it. Currently HCA Vanadzor is actively enrolled in the activities in the sphere of advocacy.
Human rights monitoring is a systematic study to collect, analyze, and verify information of certain aspects of social life focused on positive changes in the reality without any violence.
