The civil society in the Republic of Armenia constantly highlighted a number of problems regarding the electoral processes and the failure to solve such problems gives grounds to doubt the elections held in the country.
This style of behavior is typical only of a police state toolkit, incompatible with the principles of democracy and the rule of law, aimed at silencing a citizen and discrediting his civil activity, and inconsistent with the assurances made at the highest levels about conducting free and fair elections.
Belarus: Civic solidarity movement condemns mass detentions and police violence against peaceful demonstrators, calls for a strong reaction by the international community
We, the undersigned members of the Civic Solidarity Platform (CSP), a coalition of human rights NGOs from Europe, the former Soviet Union region and North America, and other non-governmental organisations decry the mass detentions of peaceful demonstrators, journalists and human rights defenders, as well as the use of violence and abusive treatment targeting them in Belarus on 25-26 March 2017.
Dear Mr. President
We, 48 undersigned organizations from 24 countries, strongly condemn the continuing wave of detentions and harassment of peaceful protesters, journalists, human rights defenders, civil society activists, anarchists and opposition party members in Belarus.
Armenian National Platform of the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum with deep sorrow records another gross human rights violation in the Republic of Armenia, which on March 16, 2017 resulted in the death of Artur Sargsyan (The Bread Bringer), who had supplied food to “Sasna Tsrer” armed group. The Criminal proceeding against Artur Sargsyan, the negligence of the circumstance of his serious health problems and his detention, then after short release his re-detention based on the distorted medical forensic examination, give us ground to claim that Artur Sargsyan is a prisoner of conscience and has been persecuted for political motives.
The European Platform for Democratic Elections (EPDE) condemns the refusal of the Armenian authorities to invite its international citizen observers to monitor the parliamentary election scheduled on 2 April 2017. Together with its Armenian member organisations Transparency International Anticorruption Center, Yerevan and the Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Vanadzor, EPDE strongly protest against the arbitral decision of the Armenian government.

Considering the importance of the work that the OSCE Office in Yerevan does, we want to emphasize that its closure will hinder the process of building democratic institutions in the country. The Office is much needed in Armenia.

On February 12, 2017, the ‘Independent Observer’ Public Alliance with 15 observers monitored the elections of the Council of Elders in Semyonovka village of Gegharkunik marz (region) during which the voter registration electronic technical devices were tested. The observers of the ‘Independent Observer’ Public Alliance and representatives of the partner mass media stayed at the polling station for the period of 10:30 am-13:30 pm and witnessed various tests of applying the voter registration electronic devices.

On 26 January 2017 in Bakhchysaray, Crimea, Russian security services detained a lawyer, Mr. Emil Kurbedinov. Emil Kurbedinov is among few independent lawyers in Crimea who defend political prisoners.
