 Vardan Harutyunyan addresses the attacks made by the authorities against human rights activists. Aravot: In your opinion, are the attacks and “disclosures” of H1 against Artur Sakunts and Levon Barseghyan, the representatives of human rights organizations, a manifestation of their inability of the government to deny the activists’ arguments regarding the violations of law or actual crime reports against the activists?
 The outcry of the non-governmental organizations against recent and successive suicides in the army caused a split in the ministry of defense.

 The Ministry of Defense appears to be in ‘a pre-eruption’ state. Whether something will ‘explode’ is difficult to say, but passions are beginning to rage.
 The objectivity of the investigation in the case of Vladimir Asatryan, who allegedly committed suicide on October 9th at a military base in Martakert, is questioned in the evidence of the internal and preliminary investigations and there are even suspicions of government inactivity.
 The father of Arman Yengibaryan who died this summer as a result of being neutralized while being chased by some police officers, appealed to the court demanding they restart the examination of the lawfulness of the police actions towards his son.

On October 21, 2011, the RA Court of Appeals rejected the appeal of Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly-Vanadzor, whereby the organization requested to reverse the decision of the Lori Region Court of Common Jurisdiction.

 Yesterday, October 21, 2011, members of the Army in Reality Initiative met with the First Deputy Minister of Defense, Davit Tonoyan on the latter’s initiative. As the member of the initiative group, human rights activist, Artur Sakunts told Henaran.am, the meeting was conducted in an atmosphere of mutual understanding.
 Tavush Region Court of Common Jurisdiction made a decision yesterday to move the trial of Artak Nazaryan’s case to one of the courts in Yerevan.
On October 20, 2011 members of the “Army in Reality” Public Initiative organized a protest at the RA Government Building together with the parents of the soldiers deceased while serving in the army. The protest was peaceful until the moment when the RA Chief of Police came out of the RA Government Building and tried to disrupt the demonstration by pushing the protestors and damaging the poster.
This is a crime statement aboutthe illegal actions of the police who forcibly brought Vardges Gaspari to the police station.

 According to human rights activist, Artur Sakuts, the Public Council under the MoD was created to save the ministry’s face and to create an illusion of civil participation. The President of the PB, Gegham Harutyunyan, proved this with the statements he made today during the meeting with reporters.
