Vilnius (4 December 2011)—In order to address the inadequate response of states and international organizations to ongoing human rights violations in Europe and Eurasia, 35 leading civil society organizations today launched Civic Solidarity, a new international platform for cooperation.

On May 19 of 2011, at 10:00 am the RA Criminal Court of Appeal will hear the trial of Garnik Melikyan’s advocate Edmon Marukyan’s claim against the resolution taken by the RA Court of General Jurisdiction of Kentron and Nork-Marash Administrative Districts.
 On May 17 of 2011, at 10:00 am, the RA Criminal Court of Appeal will hear the court appeal of NGOs against the resolution taken by the RA Court of General Jurisdiction of Kentron and Nork-Marash Administrative Districts.
 “We knew that Courts are not independent, but yesterday’s resolution to resume the hearing of the case against “Zhamanak” daily filed by the Kocharyans testifies that they are also unpredictable”, Artur Sakunts, head of Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly-Vanadzor expressed his standpoint.
 The RA Administrative Court has rejected a claim submitted by Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly-Vanadzor against the resolution of the Stepanavan Avagani and because of this resolution, Stepanavan residents will continue to pay 500 AMD per newspaper.
On April 30, 2011 advocate Edmon Marukyan, a member of the Palace of Advocates, submitted an administrative claim to the RA Judicial Department against the activities of judicial bailiffs, who are in charge of controlling over persons entering the RA Criminal Court of Appeal Building.
On April 26, 2011 the Lori Region Court of First Instance heard the trial of Vano Eghiazaryan’s claim against Lernapat community member, Gevorg Melkonyan, to compensate for damages caused to his prestige, dignity, and business reputation. The court session, presided over by Judge Varduhi Hovnanyan, was attended by plaintiff party, Vano Eghiazaryan, and the responding party, Gevorg Melkonyan and his representative, Artur Sakunts.
 The RA Prosecutor General’s Office discussed the statement received with N 3-15 letter on 31.03.2011 and adopted by the 29.03.2011 resolution of the Council of Court Chairpersons regarding Lori Region Prosecutor Karen Shahbazyan’s judgments in the 22.03.2011 press conference over the 20.03.2011 resolution taken by the Lori Region Court of First Instance in concerning Maksim Petrosyan.
 The preliminary investigation body excluded the version of murder, thereby preventing an objective investigation.
 On March 2011, Kotayk Region Court of First Instance decided to reject the resolution over filing a criminal case.
On April 8, 2011, at approximately 12 p.m. the RA Civil Court of Appeals located at 23 Garegin Nzhdeh, 3rd floor, # 321 hall, Yerevan, heard the trial of an appeal regarding the resolution on “closing the civil case”.
 Public advocate Mels Goginyan, who represents 72-year Maksim Petrosyan’s interests, intends to appeal the Court of Appeals decision over applying detention as a preventive measure against his client.
 On April 5, 2011 the Lori Region Court of First Instance rejected a claim,submitted by Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Vanadzor office, regarding the elimination of the decision “over refusal to file a criminal case” against RA Lori Region Prosecutor M. Khachtryan on January 30, 2011. Lori Region Court of First Instance did not revise the decision” over rejecting to file a criminal case” against RA Lori Region Prosecutor’s Office.
 On March 22 of 2011, Lori Region Prosecutor Karen Shahbazyan convened a press conference regarding the March 20, 2011 resolution taken by Lori Region Court of First Instance over Maksim Petrosyan’s case, where he condemned the Court’s decision by terming it groundless and labeling Maksim Petrosyan, who was benefiting from presumption of innocence, as a “killer”.
On April 5, 2011 at approximately 12 p.m. the Lori Region Court of First Instance will hear a preliminary trial regarding the case submitted by Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Vanadzor against Lori Region Prosecutor’s Office decision.
 The trial of a criminal case over a murder committed in 2003 in the Mataghis Military Unit, resumed at Shirak District Court of First Instance.
