Secretary General of the Council of Europe, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Members of the Bureau, Standing and Monitoring Committees of the PACE, CoE High Commissioner for Human Rights
A number of NGOs have addressed a letter to the members of Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe yesterday and demanded to reject accreditation of the Armenian delegation, as the delegation does not include any representative of the opposition.

On the International Human rights day, we, human rights NGOs in Armenia, are expressing our deep concern about the law enforcement bodies, judicial body of Armenia and the problems related to execution of justice.
“An awful resolution,” “a dirty deal,” “Europe defamed democracy,” “Council of Europe buried Armenia’s future.” These were some of the expressions that several human rights defenders of Armenia characterized PACE latest resolution 1643 related to Armenia.
On 15-17 January 2009 special co-reporters of the Monitoring Committee of Council of Europe Georges Colombier and John Prescotte visited Armenia. They held meetings with representatives of the Armenian authorities only.
The PACE Monitoring Commission decided to extend the deadline for meeting the demands of the resolution 1609 on Armenia till January 2009. The commission proposed giving Armenia time till the January session of the PACE for the implementation of the resolution 1609.
“The PACE assessment cannot change much in the present situation in Armenia,” considers Arthur Sakunts, Head of the Vanadzor office of Helsinki Civil Assembly.
Having examined the domestic political situation and the measures taken by Armenian authorities to fulfill the requirements stipulated by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe’s (PACE) Resolution 1609, we, the undersigned participants in the summary discussion on PACE Resolution 1609 of 17 April 2008, hereby affirm that:
Secretary General of the Council of Europe Terry Davis OSCE Chairman-in-Office Alexander Stubb Human Rights Commissioner Thomas Hammerberg Presidency of the European Union
Provisional edition Resolution 1609 (2008)1 1. On 19 February 2008, Presidential election took place in Armenia.
Strasbourg, 13.06.2006 -- “I do not understand how teaching tolerance can be grounds for dismissal” said Terry Davis after a meeting with the Polish Permanent Representative to the Council of Europe as a result of reports that a Polish official has been dismissed for using a Council of Europe handbook on human rights education.
