On March 15th Yerevan Press Club organized discussion in the office of HCA Vanadzor on “The Problems of Freedom of Speech and Independence of Mass Media”.
During the discussion, in which the representatives of Vanadzor Mass Media and Non-Governmental Organizations took part, the specialists of Yerevan Press Club and the Committee to Protect Freedom of Expression told about the monitoring they had done.

  Being a representative of human rights organization I urge you and your government, to respect and support the work of human rights defenders in the Russian Federation, who peacefully exercise their right to freedom of expression and carry out legitimate and valuable work.

The murder of Hrant Dink, the editor of Armenian Turkish newspaper “Akos”, was the first action in the world in 2007 directed to the freedom of speech and journalists’ rights. Such a murder was a challenge to any society where human dignity and pluralism are important.Moreover, when such a thing was done during the daytime, it can be described in one word: shock.

Destroying freedom, conscience and truth has become an everyday matter in Russia. Today the whole world grieves for journalist Anna Politkovskaya, who died a tragic death. We can attest that Jeanne d’Arc lived and worked among us. We knew her through her articles in “Novaya Gazeta” ("New Newspapar"), through her actions, through her devotion to people and the idea of serving them, and with her courage.

Today annual nomination «Freedom on Informationե was held in connection with the International Day of Information Freedom.

YEREVAN, 28 September 2006 - The implementation of the law on freedom of information in Armenia was the theme of an OSCE-organized conference and awards ceremony held in Yerevan today.

On July 20-23, 2006 the seminar “ Caucasus – Culture of Differences” for young journalists took place in Tbilisi , Georgia .
