Human Rights Organizations Across Europe and Eurasia Join Forces to Address Widespread Violations of Liberties
Vilnius (4 December 2011)—In order to address the inadequate response of states and international organizations to ongoing human rights violations in Europe and Eurasia, 35 leading civil society organizations today launched Civic Solidarity, a new international platform for cooperation.

Yesterday, the human rights activist and Chairman of Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly-Vanadzor, Artur Sakunts, informed Zhoghovurd that HCAV received an alert that a citizen was invited to the Lori Region Prosecutor’s Office where he harmed himself.

 „Let’s not be indifferent, we want to see healthy boys serving in our armed forces, which will make the army stable and strong. We are ready to cooperate”-said Arthur Sakunts during the TV program on „Tashirk” TV in the town of Tashir, which took place on December 8, 2008. The program was about the autumn recruitment process and the problems of recruits and their families during that period.
 On November 21, 2008 a working meeting took place in the office of HCA Vanadzor within the framework of the project “Formation of Civil Control over Recruitment Process.”
 On November 15, 2008 the second TV broadcast was held in ,,Lori TV°°, Vanadzor, on the topic of problems of the recruits and their relatives during the autumn call-up.
 On November 10, 2008, the first TV broadcast was organized in „Ankyun + 3”, Alaverdi, on the topic of problems of recruits and their relatives during autumn recruitment.
 On October 15, 2008 Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly-Vanadzor organized the second training within the framework of the project “Formation of Civil Control over the Recruitment Process” implemented with the support of Open Society Institute Assistance-Armenia.
 HCA Vanadzor continues the project “Formation of Civil Control over Recruitment Process in Lori region” supported by Open Society Institute Assistance Foundation-Armenia. Within the framework of the project, monitoring of spring recruitment has been conducted. The first interim report has been made on the monitoring results and presented to RA Ministry of Defence.
 On May 12, 2008, HCA Vanadzor organized seminar training within the framework of the project “Formation of Civil Control over Recruitment Process” that is being implemented with support of Open Society Institute Assistance – Armenia.

 By court decision Vanadzor resident Davit Petrosyan will spend the next two and half years in prison for avoiding alternative military service.

 On January 22nd 2007, the registration of recruits born in 1991 started. It means that young people go to regional policlinics; they go through all rooms and give necessary tests. The documents are filled out, and then they are handed to doctors. Afterwards the doctors make conclusions. The papers of the sick youngsters are sent to hospitals.
 Razmik Sargsyan, Musa Serobyan and Arayik Zalyan, who were under arrest for already three years, will return home. On December 22nd, RA Court of Cassation on Criminal and Military Cases finished the criminal case against Razmik Sargsyan, Musa Serobyan and Arayik Zalyan with an unprecedented sentence.
 On October 11th, 2006 the first round table on “The Situation of Alternative Service in Lori Region” took place in the office of HCA Vanadzor. The round table was organized within the framework of the project Yellow Tulips, which is supported by Interchurch Peace Council (IKV, the Netherlands) and implemented by HCA Vanadzor.
