On September 24, 2018, presided by Judge M. Melkonyan, Yerevan General Jurisdiction Court decided on additional punishment for the doctors charged with 27-month-old Lia Misakyan’s death in 2013.

The Court decided to deprive defendants Lilit Vardanyan and Zarine Ayvazyan of the right to practice pediatrics for a period of two years. At the same time, the Court decided to release the defendants of the punishment due to the expiration of statute limitations period.

We would like to remind that according to the Court ruling of June 15, 2015, L. Vardanyan and Z. Ayvazyan were found guilty of the act envisaged by Article 130 § 2 of the RA Criminal Code and they were sentenced to imprisonment for a period of 2 years and 2 years and 6 months respectively, without additional punishment. At the same time, applying point 4 sub-point 1 of the Amnesty Act adopted on the occasion of the 22nd anniversary of the RA independence, the Court released the defendants from serving their punishment.
