Within the framework of the project “Rights, services, participation – fostering a comprehensive mental health framework in Armenia” implemented with the support of the European Union, Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly-Vanadzor, Democracy Development Foundation, Disability Rights Agenda NGO, and the Armenian Mental Health Association with the cooperation of the Ministry of Health are developing a draft law on “Mental Health”, which has the purpose of complying the legal norms existing in the field of the mental health of the RA with the general principles and approaches proclaimed by the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
The new law should ensure effective mechanisms for the mental health care of the population, create effective mechanisms to provide and protect the rights of persons with mental health problems, ensure equality of opportunities, and eliminate discrimination.
